Welsh AS/A Level at Castell Alun High School

Course description

The course will assist you to become a more independent learner in preparation for the world of work or Higher Education. You will be learning to communicate to a very high level in the language and you will learn about further aspects of Welsh life and culture.
 
Speaking 
By the end of the course, if you work with enthusiasm, you will be able to hold detailed conversations in Welsh, express your opinions, organise your ideas and present information. You will also be able to understand others who use the language. You will be expected to use resources like S4C to help you do this successfully.
 
Reading
You will be expected to read more than at GCSE, both independently and in class. You will read articles, stories, poems and a drama which you will be expected to approach critically.
 
Writing
You will be expected to show that you are able to write in a number of different ways from essays to translations. You will complete coursework on a subject of personal interest.
 
If you are interested in the Welsh language, Wales and its culture, then you will enjoy this course. Bilingualism is a key skill in Wales and Europe in the 21st Century. You may benefit particularly from the course if you intend to work in the fields of education, law, health, tourism, journalism or media.
