The GCSE History course (J417) at St James’s has two exam papers and one controlled assessment assignment. Paper 1 focuses on International Relations between 1918 and 1939. You will study key events, people, and how the Second World War started. Then you will study Germany between 1918 and 1945 in more depth, learning about the consequences of the First World War, the rise of Hitler and life in Hitler’s Germany. This part of the course is assessed by an exam paper at the end of year 11. Paper 2 is entirely focussed on British history between 1896 and 1918. You will learn about the changes to people’s lives, the impact the Suffragettes had on gaining women the vote and the impact the First World War had on civilians at home. This part of the course is assessed by an exam paper at the end of year 11. Pupils also carry out a controlled assessment assignment on the role and impact of an individual from the past. Our focus is on Martin Luther King and the study of Civil Rights in the USA.
