If you wish to be able to explain where you came from and where you are going to then this is the course for you. In an ever changing world studying Physics is the unyielding constant which is the basis for all our lives.

Aims of the course

To provide a stimulating and rewarding educational experience allowing students to study a variety of topics in A level Physics. The topics give students the opportunity to pursue their own interests in the subject through extended practical projects and information research.

Programme of Study

This course consists of six units of study to cover the topics of AS/A2 Physics. You will take exams in January and June each year and complete practical exams for each year of study.

This year introduces new topics as well as building on previous studies in GCSE Physics. The course structure has two main units and a short investigation based on the skills learned in units 1 and 2. All assessments are written with a mixture of short and longer structured answers. This course is suitable for any motivated student who is good at logical reasoning.

Unit 1: Particles, Quantum Phenomena and Electricity

Unit 2: Mechanics, Materials and Waves

Unit 3: Investigative and Practical Skills.

This year builds on the skills and topics of AS Physics and also pulls together various facets of modern Physics such as relativity, quantum mechanics. This course prepares any student for Physics or Engineering related degrees or one involving Applied Mathematics. The assessment involves two main units and a short investigation but unit 4 contains an element of multiple choice questions as well as long answer questions.

Unit 4: Fields and Further Mechanics

Unit 5: This unit comprises two sections

Section A: Nuclear and Thermal Physics

Section B: Turning Points in Physics

Unit 6: Investigative and Practical Skills

Who is the course aimed at?

This course provides a foundation for an apprenticeship or degree in Astrophysics, Applied or Theoretical Physics, Astronomy, Artificial Intelligence, Microelectronic Science, Medicine, IT, Optometry, Aeronautical / Electrical / Mechanical engineering, Software and Computing, as well as Architecture. This course also suits a motivated learner who is willing to reason out problems and really push to find the answers to the world around them
