Health & Social Care - Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship at East Surrey College

Course description

The Level 2 NVQ/Diploma in Health & Social Care is designed to reflect the work of candidates who provide support to service users within a range of Health and Social Care settings. The qualification is work based and supports all staff to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies needed to work as a team member in a care environment. The award will look at all aspects of the care worker role and its requirements. These include interaction with service users and colleagues, to hands on care and supporting service users with making daily decisions and choices.
As with all qualifications, candidates need support. Where possible we encourage all organisations to allocate a named mentor in the workplace to support the candidate with day to day concerns about study or general duties within their role.

Students can undertake a number of pathways depending on their role. These routes include
• Dementia
• Adults with Learning Disabilities
• Generic pathway

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for an Apprenticeship but you must be in paid work for a minimum of 30 hours per week. It is essential you have the right mind-set for working full time and studying at the same time. Having a can-do attitude, being flexible and reliable are also important. You must also be able to communicate effectively with others.

Assessment

This qualification is work based and students are assessed on their ability to perform a range of tasks connected with their work. Students plan a programme of development and assessment with their assessor and compile a portfolio of evidence to prove that they are competent and knowledgeable in their work role.

Future opportunities

Accreditation towards further Health & Social Care qualifications and improved skills and knowledge, which could lead to promotion.
