Fast Track AAT Level 2/3 at Wiltshire College
If you want to work as an accountant or study accountancy further, possibly without going to university, this is the course for you.
This course is a national vocational qualification (NVQ) which provides the practical vocational skills needed to work successfully in an accounting role. You will learn the skills you need to become an accountant through regular practice of the techniques covered in class.
The course is divided into two parts. The autumn term provides an introduction to accounting by completion of the Level 2 Certificate. You will learn the basics of book-keeping and costing as well as computerised accounting and working effectively in accounting and finance.
In January you will progress to the Level 3 Diploma, where you will be introduced to the basics of financial and management accounting, spreadsheet software, VAT, cash management and professional ethics.
During the year, you will learn about:
- Basic Accounting 1
- Basic Accounting 2
- Basic Costing
- Computerised Accounting
- Working Effectively in Accounting and Finance
- Accounts Preparation 1
- Accounts Preparation 2
- Costs and Revenues
- Indirect Tax
- Professional Ethics
- Spreadsheet Software
- 4 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English and Maths or equivalent.
- A good reference.
- A satisfactory interview
Learning accounting techniques requires lots of practice. You will receive regular homework to enable you to practice the skills you have learned in class.
Most of the units you study will be assessed by computer-based external exams. For some units you will complete an online assessment which will be marked by your tutor.
The final qualifications will be AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting and AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.
There are many opportunities available once you have successfully completed this course. If you already have a previous Level 3 qualification, you may be able to progress to an accounting and finance degree after completing this course.
You could progress on to the Level 4 Diploma and gain full membership of AAT.
You could complete the Level 4 qualification and use it to gain entry to university – some universities take AAT Level 4 students onto the second year of the degree. Or you could use the Level 4 qualification as a route to studying for the higher, chartered accountancy, qualifications without the need to take a degree at all.
You will be ready to start a career in a variety of organisations. All businesses need finance staff and job opportunities can range from large multi-national companies to small independent businesses, the NHS, Local Authorities and accountancy firms.
