Modern Foreign Languages A Level at John F Kennedy Catholic School

Course description

At KS5 students have nine hours contact time a fortnight as well as regular one to one sessions with the Language Assistants. We follow the new Edexcel full A level course, and currently offer French and Spanish, with all students sitting the final examinations at the end of two years study.

Both French and Spanish A levels incorporate compulsory themes of social issues and trends, political and/or intellectual and/or artistic culture. There is also a set literature study at A level for each language, which are all assessed through a target language essay.

An independent research project is required at A level and is assessed within the speaking exam. As part of the new Assessment Objective students will need to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the target language culture in the Edexcel speaking and writing components.

Entry requirements

A high level GCSE or equivalent with required entry grade of A*-B.

Future opportunities

The beauty of having a language degree is that there is no one given career path following graduation. Language study can open up opportunities in areas that you may never even have thought to look. Foreign civil service, advertising, airline services, editing and publishing (translations, subtitles and script translation), event management, journalism(foreign correspondent) sommelier, import/export, hotel and tourism as well as teaching careers all become a possibility with the ability to speak a language.

How to apply

If you want to apply for this course, you will need to contact John F Kennedy Catholic School directly.
