Health and Social Care - BTEC Level 3 National Diploma at Grange Technology College

This course is equivalent to 2 A Levels and is a 2 year course.

The course focuses on how the information is put into practice in care settings. You will complete 12 Units including such topics as:
- Health and safety
- Creative activities such as drawing or modelling
- Behavioural psychology where you learn to understand what makes people behave as they do
- Infection prevention and control
- Complementary approaches eg aromatherapy
- Sociology in care
- Anatomy and physiology where you learn about body systems
- Caring for people who have additional needs
- Mental health awareness
- Health education and promotion
- Discrimination and Legislation to protect service users.
You will need to complete 100 hours of work experience at settings of your own choice.
You will also develop your personal skills such self confidence, making phone calls, getting around Bradford and talking to people you haven't met before.
It may sound a bit scary, but honestly it isn't! We help you to gradually build these skills and support you while you learn.
5 x A - C at GCSE You will have an interest in people and want to learn about them.
If you have studied Health and Social Care at level 2 you should have achieved a merit or distinction.
You will need to be honest, trustworthy and reliable because you will be visiting different care settings to meet both very young children and the elderly.
You will need to be able to complete a Criminal Records Bureau check. This needs you to bring a passport, birth certificate, national insurance card and a bank statement addressed to you.
This course is assessed by 100% coursework which you complete over 2 years.
During the course you will also have an opportunity to join in several schemes with other providers. These include the Compact scheme with the University of Bradford and the various 'Preparation for ...' Health courses with the University and the NHS Teaching Hospitals.
Past students have gone on to study Nursing, Midwifery, Teaching, Early Years, Play work, Social Work, Criminology and other degrees needing 2 or 3 A Levels. Others have gone to training placements in their chosen area. Others have found employment as Health Care Assistants and Support Teaching Assistants.
