Agriculture Advanced Apprenticeship at Cornwall College
An agriculture advanced apprenticeship will often be for those who have already successfully completed a relevant level 2 provision and/or who hold appropriate employment, expertise and responsibilities performed within the workplace. You must be employed within the agriculture sector and display a strong interest in your job role, as well as being able to demonstrate enthusiasm and a strong determination to succeed as a recognised professional within industry.
Ideal if: you have already successfully completed a relevant level 2 qualification, or have appropriate employment, expertise and responsibilities.
You'll need: a level 2 agriculture qualification or apprenticeship, although relevant prior experience will be considered. You'll also need GCSEs at grade D or above in English and mathematics, or a level 1 functional skills qualification.
You'll learn: to develop your agricultural abilities and advance your knowledge and understanding of practices relating to livestock and crop production. The course includes: farm visits, visiting speakers and seminars, studying farming systems and farm accounts and records.
Expect to: work with your employer for most of the week, attending college one day per week to cover 50% practical and 50% theory work. You'll also work towards a level 2 functional skills qualification in English and mathematics.
You'll love: the chance to earn money while gaining a nationally recognised qualification.
You'll go onto: improve your promotion prospects or progress to an Agriculture City & Guilds Extended Diploma, an Agricultural Business Management City & Guilds Diploma Level 4 (work-based) or to university study such as our Foundation Degree in Agriculture.
You will undertake an enhanced programme of learning that builds on the structure outlined on the level 2 apprenticeship provision. This will further develop your agricultural abilities and will advance your knowledge and understanding of practices relating to livestock / crop production.
The course includes farm visits, visiting speakers and seminars. As well as studying farming systems you will also be introduced to farm accounts and records.
Advanced apprenticeships are delivered at one of Duchy College's campuses either at Stoke Climsland, Rosewarne or an industry based venue. You will be assigned a Liaison Officer who will visit you at your workplace to offer you further support and guidance.
A related Intermediate apprenticeship qualification or relevant level 2 qualification is essential - however, applicants with extensive relevant prior experience but without the stated qualifications will be considered. You should also have 2 GCSEs at grade D or above, or a level 1 functional skills qualification and be prepared to work towards a level 2 functional skills qualification in English and Maths.
On successful completion of the course, you may choose to continue working in the industry using your craft skills and expertise, explore the further career options that become available to you or progress onto higher education opportunities.
