Design Technology - Textile Design at Island Innovation VI Form Campus

Course description

Textile Design offers you an opportunity

to gain personal satisfaction and a

positive experience from working with a

variety of textile materials. The practical

problem solving processes, used in the

course, aim to encourage independent

learning, creativity and innovation.

This course allows you to further develop

the skills learnt in GCSE Textile Technology

and to enhance your understanding and

design capability with fabric. You will

be expected to complete practical tasks

and develop your skills and theoretical

knowledge relating to fashion design,

pattern construction and manufacture of

textile products.

Course content

Lessons will include a variety of activities

including short practical projects,

theoretical teaching sessions, product

analysis and industrial visits.


AS level: you will need to complete

a number of short projects that will

allow you to gain experience through

experimental and development work,

plus an examination paper that focuses

on materials and components.


A2 level: you will be expected to

produce one full ‘design and make’

project, consisting of a practical

piece, demonstrating a range of skills,

as well as a folio which evidences

the development of the item. The

examination paper focuses on design

and manufacture.

Entry requirements

5 A* - C at GCSE

Future opportunities

With successful completion of the AS

course you may progress to take the A2.

Qualifications in this subject will assist

students considering a career in fashion.
