Classical Civilisation AS/A2 Level at Joyce Frankland Academy

Course description

Classical Civilisation is an exciting classics course that allows students to study various aspects of the history and culture of the classical world. It is an interesting development from a GCSE in Latin but no previous experience is necessary. Students study four modules; two at AS and two at A2.

The modules studied at AS are ‘Literature of the ancient world’ and ‘Homer, the Odyssey, Life in Roman Italy – Pompeii, Herculaneum and Ostia.’

The A2 modules are : ‘Literature of the ancient world – Virgil, the Aeneid’ and ‘Life in Roman Britain.’

Entry requirements

At least the minimum school entrance requirements.

Assessment

AS is assessed by two equally weighted external exams which contribute 50% of the A level.

A2 is assessed by two equally weighted external exams which contribute 50% of the A level.
