Course description

Within the tuition of Drama, you will learn to: - develop a sense of aesthetic understanding - explore the variety of human emotions - gain confidence in your own abilities, particularly to communicate verbally and non verbally - learn to respect, and where necessary, depend upon others - develop awareness and enjoyment of the ways groups work - derive a sense of achievement from completing practical work for which you are wholly or partly responsible - evaluate your achievements as individuals and through the groups in which you will work appreciate the values and attitudes of your own and other communities - develop an understanding of theatre history and how to realise it in performance - gain an ability to create an effective piece of theatre for an audience If you are interested in studying this course, it will be a foundation to help you to be able to: - develop your interest in and enjoyment of drama and theatre, both through experience as audience members and through development of dramatic and theatrical skills as appropriate to your own practice; - develop your knowledge and understanding of the social and cultural contexts of drama and theatre, through detailed study of dramatic texts, in their context, and of the work of prescribed theatre practitioners; - develop your ability to respond critically and sensitively to a range of drama texts and to theatre in performance, through studying and attending theatrical performances of drama written in different periods, in different styles and with different aims.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses, which could be related to the performing arts, to prepare for higher education in the arts or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to the performing arts such as working in the Film, Television or Theatre industries. You may also like to look at joining a theatre group to increase your drama and theatre experience. The course offers a distinct subject content which provides you with the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers from lots of industries are looking for.
