Music at Felixstowe Academy

Course description

This course is centres entirely round the many aspects of performing music, you will learn about performance techniques, how to master your own instrument/voice, recording skills, how technology plays an important part, concert organisation and much more.

Entry requirements

A good understanding of general musicianship is expected on this course, GCSE or BTEC level 2 in music is desirable but not necessary just as long as you have a clear ablilty and perception of how music is performed. Playing at least one instrument and/or voice is mandatory. The qualities we are looking for are dedication, commitment, initiative, imagination, strong organisational skills, independence and teamwork.


Six units over a complusory two year period. Assessment is continuous and based 100% on coursework, there is no written exam requirement on this course. Equal to an A level in UCAS points.

You will have access to a dedicated music technology room along with a recording studio workstation in which to work on, both equipped with the latest top range recording software and equipment. practise rooms, two classrooms and purpose designed performance spaces will also be available.


Places will be limited to twenty students but interviews with prospective candidates may allow some expansion.
