Course description


Course content

As experimental work is essential to our studies you will spend time developing new practical skills. These will be assessed during both Year 12 and Year 13 in an experimental skills unit. We offer several opportunities to attend lectures / courses / workshops at local universities / chemical plants.

Entry requirements

Advanced courses usually require a grade C or above in the subjects you wish to study. (Mathematics and Modern Foreign Languages may require a grade B).

Assessment

You will take 3 modular examinations for AS Level and a further 4 to complete the ‘A’ Level. In both years practical skills will be assessed in a practical examination.

Future opportunities

An ‘A’ Level Chemistry qualification can lead to many further education courses at university, including science-based such as Biochemistry, Astrophysics, Medicine, Pharmacology and non science based such as Law, Accountancy, Management. Alternately you can use your qualification to secture future employment / training e.g. Food Sciences, Midwifery, Nursing, Beautician, Pharmacy and so on.

The module examinations build up to the final qualification. Modules can be re-taken to improve grades. Excellent text books to support your studies are provided. This course is run by 2 chemistry tutors, thus ensuring individual attention for your study needs. Many students have enjoyed and successfully completed this course and gone on to use their qualification to further their career choice.
