Childcare and Education CACHE Level 3 Diploma at Buxton & Leek College

Course description

This course prepares learners to become Early Years Educators, enabling them to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5 to 7 years. This course is ideal for learners aged 16-19 years old. 

You will undertake placement in a real work environments, as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. Learners have the chance to experience a range of early years settings including a forest school experience. Learners can also undertake a Paediatric First Aid course as part of the course. 

A minimum of 730 placement hours is required. It is recommended that placements should be undertaken in at least 2 different settings to cover the following age ranges: 

0-1 years, 11 months: 50 hours 

2-2 years, 11 months: 280 hours 

3-5 years: 400 hours

Course content

This qualification gives you the license to practice as an Early Years Educator. Buxton and Leek College also has excellent success rates on Childcare & Education courses.

Entry requirements

 4-5 GCSEs at C or above including English Language and Maths 

• A minimum of one week’s placement experience with children 

• Two references 

• Or entry via a Level 2 Childcare qualification at the appropriate grade with GCSEs.


To gain this qualification you’ll need to pass all course work with an extended external assessment at the end of each year.

Future opportunities

Once you have complete the Diploma you can progress onto employment as an Early Years Educator or a Foundation Degree or Honours Degree in a subject such as primary teaching.
