Construction and the Built Environment BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Burnley College

Course description

The course is aimed at students who wish to follow a professional route into construction industry. The course is the equivalent to two A levels and provides enough UCAS points for entry into university.

The course is designed to cover the technical and academic aspects of construction rather than following the vocational craft discipline. Areas covered on this course include: Surveying, Mechanical and Electrical Services, Sustainability, Environment, Science and Materials, Computer Aided Drafting and Design, Building Regulations and Design and Planning Procedures.

Students who complete the course will have the opportunity to progress onto University or go directly into employment, following studies or careers in: Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Chartered Surveying, Site Management, Project Management, and Health and Safety.

Our Construction courses are taught in our outstanding new two bespoke Construction buildings and Centre for Engineering Excellence built in 2015, providing the most up-to-date environment possible to develop your skills in a number of trades.

Course content

Five GCSEs at grade C or above which should include English Language, Mathematics and Science OR a relevant Level 2 Diploma at Merit grade and a GCSE grade C in English Language or Mathematics.

Assessment

Assessment is via coursework in the form of written assignments and presentations that must be completed over the two year programme.

Future opportunities

The course provides an entry route to university to study construction related degrees, foundation degrees and HNDs (Higher National Diplomas). The course provides an excellent basis for entry to a wide variety of employment opportunities within the construction industry on a technical and professional level.
