Sport BTEC (available as single, double or triple option) at Ryde Academy
The BTEC Sport course allows students to study sport in a vocational context. In addition to improving your sporting skills, you will also be given opportunities to develop your coaching and leadership skills through the Young Sports Leaders programme. Many BTEC sports students also take the opportunity to do work experience with the local middle and primary schools to put into practice what they have learnt. COURSE ASSESSMENT 100% course work graded Pass, Merit or Distinction COURSE CONTENT Each year of the course you will cover 6 units which may include the following: Sport in Society Practical Team Sports Body in Action Health and Safety in Sport Sport’s Coaching Fitness Testing
Grade C or above in English, Maths and Science. GCSE in Sport is not a requirement but would be advantageous.
You could take this course with a related GCE or other qualification to prepare for further education in areas of sport such as BTEC Higher Nationals in Sport Management or related degree programmes. You could also go on to study an NVQ vocational qualification in Sports Development, which could be work-based. With further training, you could go into a job related to sport such as a Sport Coach, Trainer or Gym Instructor . The course provides a work related programme of study so you could go straight into a job as it helps you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers are looking for, especially in the sport and exercise sector. Students who study BTEC Sport often go on to study for degrees in PE, Physiotherapy, Sports Science, Sport Management, Recreational Management and Sport Analysis.
