A2 English Lang & Lit at The Beacon School

Course description

AS Outline At AS, this specification will enable candidates to study language and literature using an Anthology of literary and non-literary texts and a chosen set of paired texts. Further study will focus opon the ways in which different writers have approached similar subjects and the ways in which language and style are affected by change over time and contextual variation. A2 Outline At A2, the specification includes coursework as a means of applying the knowledge, understanding and insights gained from literary and linguistic studies to transform an original work into a different genre or sub genre. Candidates will demonstrate the use of appropriate terminology when analysing set texts. Drama texts wil be included at A2 level.

Future opportunities

English Language & Literature A level is a very flexible qualification which combines well with other subjects to form the foundation for a variety of careers.You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in English Language, Literature or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to English Language such as a Teacher, Journalist, or Editor, or a Job relating to English Literature, such as an Author or a Poet. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking. English Langage & Literature combines very well with a variety of Arts subjects and is a very popular choice at university.
