Physics at St Aidan's and St John Fisher's Associated Sixth Form

Course description

Physics is a fascinating subject to study at this level. It is also very highly regarded by universities and employers who recognise that studying Physics develops practical, analytical and logical problem solving skills as well as increasing students’ awareness of how the world works.

AS Units:

Unit 1: Particles, Quantum Phenomena and Electricity
Unit 2: Mechanics, Materials and Waves
Unit 3: Investigative and Practical Skills

A2 Units:

Unit 4: Fields and Further Mechanics
Unit 5: Nuclear and Thermal Physics
Unit 6: Investigative and Practical Skills

An A Level in Physics is essential, highly desirable or very useful for many different careers/professions. Amongst these are Engineering, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry, Architecture, Management, Research, Geophysics and Geology.

Entry requirements

Ideally students will have achieved a Grade B in GCSE Physics or an A in Additional Science (Coordinated Science).

A Grade B in Maths is also required before admission to the course, preferably in the Higher Tier paper at GCSE. However, students gaining C Grades may be taken on teacher recommendation.
