General Studies A Level at Lady Manners School

Course description

General Studies is part of the core curriculum element in the Sixth Form, which constitutes one taught double period per week. It provides a breadth and balance to overall studies, whilst also contributing to the University admissions point system.

Course content

  • Module 1 Culture and Society
  • Module 2 Science and Society

These modules are studied over a 1 year period. Attendance is compulsory for all those taking General Studies as their core compulsory subject.

AS: 1½ hour written examinations for both Science and Culture. The examinations consist of objective test questions and documentary source analysis questions. Please note that due to government reform, this is only available as an AS qualification.

Future opportunities

Increasingly, many Higher Education Institutions accept General Studies grades or points when making offers. Where it is not part of the original offer, Universities may look to General Studies if students have not made the required grades. This can, and has, enabled students to study at the University of their choice. General Studies also enriches and expands our students’ learning experience and breadth of knowledge.
