AS / A Level - Drama & Theatre Studies at Blackpool Sixth Form College

Course description

Take A Level Theatre Studies at Blackpool Sixth and you will learn how to act, direct and design for the stage. The course is a mixture of practical and theoretical study, based on studying a set play, reviewing live theatre and developing your own performance for a live audience.

Course content


AS Drama & Theatre Studies Year includes:

  • Study of one set text from the point of view of actor, director, designer
  • Performance of play as part of a group of actors
  • Critical review of live theatre

A2 Drama & Theatre Studies Year includes:

  • Study of two set texts from point of view of actor, director, designer
  • Performance of a group devised project

Entry requirements


Grade B in English at GCSE strongly recommended. Grade C in GCSE Drama or BTEC equivalent or experience in performing in public or for exams.

A GCSE/BTEC drama grade is not essential for this course but you must be able to demonstrate significant experience in performing to be eligible (e.g. LAMDA)


1 1/2 hour written exam and presentation of a 20-30 minute extract of a play including 2,100 word coursework portfolio

Future opportunities

Many students will go on to study Drama at university to eventually work in the theatre industry, teaching or drama therapy. Drama & Theatre Studies is an excellent complement to any course due to the variety of personal and communication skills developed.
