Course description

OCR Cambridge Technicals Level 3 in ICT (Extended Certificate - equivalent to 1 A Level)

Course content

The 2 year course will take up the majority of your time during 6th form and is suitable for students who want to carry out a route into ICT.  It is delivered as a complete package with Business Studies and you are not required to choose any other subjects as it is worth the equivalent of 3 A Levels.  The course will take up 6 lessons per week and it is of a vocational nature, which means that it has many work related elements that may require you to engage in work experience.  You will engage in the following units over two years, so developing a wide range of ICT understanding:

Unit 1 - Communication and Employability Skills for IT

Unit 2 - Computer Systems

Unit 3 - Information Systems

Unit 7 - Organisational Systems Security

Unit 8 - E-commerce

Unit 9 - Computer Networks

Unit 25 - Maintaining Computer Systems

Unit 28 - Website Production

Unit 29 - Installing and Upgrading Software

Unit 30 - Digital Graphics

Unit 31 - Computer Animation

Unit 43 - Multimedia Design



Entry requirements

A grade C or above in English, Maths and 3 other GCSE subjects.  GCSE's in ICT are an advantage but not a requirement.


You will be studying the equivalent of 1 A Level of ICT (Extended Certificate).

The course is 40% exam and 60% coursework so you must adhere to very strict deadlines.

Future opportunities

This course will enable you to follow ICT style courses at university.  Specific skills include building networks and managing IT security and ICT infrastructure.  Other careers supported include managing ICT teams, Web Design, Computer Animator and Technician Leader.
