AS / A Level - Art (Graphic Design) at Blackpool Sixth Form College

Course description

The A Level Art (Graphic Design) course will give you an understanding of the creative design process in its entirety, enabling you to tackle briefs with confidence and develop the practical skills needed to flourish in today’s industry. All projects are personal and individually developed through exploration of materials, techniques and processes, both guided and independent.

Course content

 

AS Art (Graphic Design) Year includes:

  • Illustration both digital and hand rendered
  • Photoshop & InDesign software
  • Typography, Branding, Layout and Design
  • Research into a range of historical and contemporary practitioners
  • Externally set exam project

A2 Art (Graphic Design) Year includes:

  • 1000 essay to complement your specialist practical coursework project
  • Externally set exam project
  • Opportunity to exhibit work in the end of year show and at the FYCreative studio
  • Opportunity to work on live briefs

Entry requirements

A grade C or above in a GCSE Art and Design subject or BTEC equivalent. Students without an Art and Design GCSE are required to present a portfolio/ selection of their work at interview.

Assessment

50% exam and 50% coursework in both AS and A2

Exam board: AQA GCE Graphic Design ARTC

Future opportunities

Past students have successfully progressed onto art and design based courses at a variety of universities, into employment with graphic design agencies, magazines, newspapers, advertising companies, architecture, galleries, museums, art council, art education, art therapy. Some have also achieved great success as independent freelance artists and designers.
