Media Studies at Lincoln Christ's Hospital School

Course description

AQA AS and A2 Media Studies is a natural progression for those students who have taken Media Studies at GCSE but will also be suitable for those with an interest in the subject despite having little experience. The course is divided into theory and practical units with scope for the student to focus on their own areas of enthusiasm.

The course is a balance of practical skills and productions alongside deep critical thinking and an understanding of media theory. It will also require an enthusiasm for different media platforms, a comprehensive awareness of the media as a whole and a desire to debate controversial ideas. Cross-cultural issues will be addressed as will the effects of globalisation on the media, institutions and consumers. Ideas such as representation, audience, genre, values and ideology will be key to gaining a clear understanding of how we consume the media and how the media shapes us as consumers.
