Art and Design A-Level at Gateacre School
On the Art and Design A-level course you are offered two options, these being:
- A-Level Art and Design Unendorsed
- A-Level Art and Design: Three dimensional design (sculpture)
These options may be taken singly or together, giving you the opportunity to focus on the Arts.
Over both courses pupils are supported on a visual and creative journey, with a focus on each pupil’s personal progress. You are encouraged to explore and experiment across a broad range of materials and the development of personal and unique ideas is strongly encouraged. An interest and critical awareness of current Art trends as well as Art History will be an important element in each course, and trips to galleries and museums will take place.rt and Design (Unendorsed)
This creative and exciting course involves pupils gaining new and developing current practical skills; this is done over a collection of exciting workshops including printmaking, photography, ceramics, computer generated work and Art textiles. Alongside this is the development of drawing, painting and sketchbook work where research, a personal approach and analytical skills are nurtured.
The coursework produced in Unit 1 (AS Level) and Unit 3 (A-Level) forms part of pupil’s final assessment and is also used for portfolio work when on visits for Further and Higher Education.
As mentioned above trips to galleries and museums are an important element of the course, as well as organised trips to Europe and America. These trips play a huge part in the development of coursework as well as giving pupils the chance to celebrate and enjoy Art in new environments. There is also scope for Art weekends away such as to the Lake District, where pupils take part in intensive yet fun workshops, with more experimental and expressive work produced.
We welcome ALL creative and enthusiastic pupils to the course and enjoy witnessing work and styles progress over the 2years. We as staff work hard to ensure the course is an enjoyable and creative experience and require you to also be committed to your personal progression. The course is a real chance to visually explore and promote your own Art styles and beliefs and each pupil’s coursework is entirely different! You are given the creative freedom to approach tasks in your own way and decide on your individual strengths and preference for the personal outcomes and exam units. If you have any queries about the course please come and ask the course teachers, Miss Cassidy and Miss Sagar, we will be happy to help.
