Travel and Tourism BTEC First Certificate / Diploma at Corby Business Academy
The introductory course will run in single option blocks and will be equal to two GCSEs over the two years.The aims of the course are to encourage students to:Develop an understanding of how travel and tourism organisations operate as a business.Acquire knowledge and understanding of UK travel and tourisam activities and destinations.Develop an understanding of how people spend their leisure time.Develop an understanding of why people travel and how the tourism industry meets their needs.Develop an understanding of employment possibilities in travel and tourism.Develop an understanding of the importance of customer service in leisure and tourism organisations.
All levels have units assessed by portfolio work.There are three or six compulsory units including:The UK Travel and Tourism IndustryExploring Customer Service in Travel and TourismUK Travel and Tourism DestinationsEuropean Holiday DestinationsBusiness Skills for Travel and TourismDeveloping Employability Skills for Travel and TourismPlanning visits for Travel and Tourism.
Further Education: The subject area allows for progression onto BTEC level 3 Awards or GCSE Advanced level courses.Employment: The Travel and Tourism Industry is an important and fast growing employment sector. The units aim to maintain and support recognised standards demanded for the Travel and Tourism Sectors in Industry. The well developed personal skills,e.g.teamwork, problem soving and personal initiative combined with work related knowledge gained within this course, means that students are suitable for recruitment,initially at junior level, in a range of fields.The skills,techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for successful performance in working life are developed throughout this course.
