Animal Management (Level 3) - General Pathway at Askham Bryan College

Course description

This programme covers the subjects needed to develop the skills to care for, handle and manage a variety of animals. These skills and the knowledge that goes with them are essential for a career in the animal care or animal management industries, or for degree level study. Actual themes studied may differ and depend on the study centre.

Course content

General Animal Managment pathway avaialble at Saltaire, Midlesbrough and Scarborough.  (other specialist pathway also exist at York, please see other course listing for further details)

Course Themes:

• Care for, handle and manage a variety of animals

• Understanding of animal health

• How the animal body works and nutritional requirements

• Behaviour and communication

• Exotics

• Safe animal handling

• Work experience placement

• Investigative project

• English and maths provision where applicable  

 

Entry requirements

Level 3 Study Programmes:

4 GCSEs at grade 4 (old GCSE grade C) or above to include 2 from English, Maths and Science with at least a grade 3 (old GCSE grade D) in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable Level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English, Maths and Science at Level 2

 

Assessment

Your timetable will include a mixture of practical work and classroom (theory) sessions. Vocational programmes are normally assessed through a variation of programme assignments, practical assessment and formal time constrained assessments/examinations.

Future opportunities

Further study: Higher Education qualifications such as degrees or Higher National Diplomas in related subjects (including animal management, animal science or veterinary nursing).
