English Language and Literature A-Level at Sowerby Bridge High School

Course description

If you love literature, enjoy writing creatively and have an inquisitive mind this is the course for you. A plethora of writers will be studied from Shakespeare to Truman Capote. New and exciting areas of study will open up before you including the study of spoken language.

Coursework involves writing creatively, producing texts for different audiences and purposes and previous students have produced TV scripts, short stories and monologues, to name but a few.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 5 GCSE passes A*-C or equivalent in 3 or more subject areas (including a minimum B grade in English).

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in any English course or more general highe education courses.With further training, you could go into a job related to English such as a Teacher, Journalist, or Editor.The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking.
