Physics at Island Innovation VI Form Campus

Course description

You will be taught by a mixture of teacher demonstration and class practical to illustrate concepts encountered. This can involve classical physics apparatus, novel demonstrations with current technology or computer based activities ranging from modelling and simulation to data logging. Industry standard software is used to access a custom InfoBase and every student is issued with a copy of this on CD ROM for home use so access

Course content

AS units include: Physics in action, understanding processes and coursework completed during practical sessions.

A2 units include: Rise and fall of the clockwork universe, field and particle pictures and internal assessment of practical skills completed during practical sessions.

Entry requirements

B grade in Physics at GCSE (if triple science) BB in Double science. B grade in Mathematics. C grade in English.

Future opportunities

The majority of students choose to progress to university and approximately half study science and engineering. Skills acquired during the course, such as decision making, team work, data handling and computing along with ability to work methodically and accurately are very relevant to a wide range of careers.
