National Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care Level 3 at Ashford College
The course requires you to undertake a range of work placements over two years, and will allow you to begin to develop the skills and qualities
needed to become a care professional in roles such as nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, paramedic training and health and social care work. This practical course combines work placements with class-based sessions.
You will study 13 units over two years. Among the topics you will cover are:
- Human life span development
- Working in Health and Social Care
- Anatomy and physiology in Health and Social Care
- Enquires into current research in Health and Social Care
Please note that two units per year are assessed by an online examination taken under exam conditions.
There is a wide variety of optional units in the second year of the study programme.
You will need five GCSEs at Grades A*-C/9-4, including English and maths. Alternatively, a Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care at Merit, with Level 2 or more Functional Skills in maths and English. You will be interviewed and a place on the course is subject to a DBS check and a positive reference. You will need to demonstrate an aptitude for working with vulnerable people.
Progress into either work or higher education courses in nursing, midwifery, probation, counselling and social work.
