Applied Science BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate at Berwick Academy

Course description

In the first year, students will study towards a National Certificate course. This involves the study of two compulsory units: Unit 1 Principles and Applications of Science, and Unit 2 Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques. The first unit is assessed externally by a 90 minute exam. Unit 2 is internally assessed and will include activities such as writing a report on the findings of their own research, using case studies and carrying out projecs, demonstrating practical and technical skills through the use of appropriate equipment, procedures and techniques. 

Students can go on to study towards a National Extended Certificate in year two of the course. This has an additional two units, including the mandatory Unit 3 Science Investigation Skills. This unit is externally assessed, and involves a supervised task set by Pearson. The remaining unit is to be confirmed from a list of options, and is internally assessed.

Entry requirements

Grade C in a Science GCSE or BTEC Merit.
