It is a 120-credit and 720 guided-learning-hour (GLH) qualification that consists of mandatory units plus optional units that provide for a combined total of 120 credits. For the double award there will be more units for pupils to complete in comparison to the single award.
1 The Business Environment 10
2 Business Resources 10
3 Introduction to Marketing 10
4 Business Communication 10
Plus any two optional units from a number of different pathways: -
- Human Resources
- Retail General (e.g. Starting a Business; Business Ethics)
Each unit is internally assessed. A wide variety of evidence is accepted as this enables learners to submit practical work as well as written coursework as part of their portfolio of evidence. A sample of work is submitted each year for external verification.
BTEC Nationals offer progression from the BTEC First Certificate which you will preferably have at least passed at level 2. However, if students have not studied business prior to this Level 3 course this should not be seen as a barrier to the course as students adjust quickly to the subject specific knowledge.
The BTEC Nationals in Business provide a route to higher education or employment in the many diverse areas of business. These could include studying business or working for larger organisations, in specialist areas such as Management, Marketing, Finance, Customer Service or Human Resources. In smaller businesses the skills gained at BTEC will enable students to undertake a more generic role.
