Course description

The Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Hair and Make-Up Studies is a specialist vocational qualification for both men and women. If you have an artistic nature and a love of the theatrical, this course will equip you with industry knowledge, understanding and skills; developing highly proficient professional make-up and hair artists, specialising in theatrical and special effects makeup, including prosthetics.

Course content

This course covers a broad range of subjects including:

  • Fashion photographic make-up
  • Media make-up
  • Camouflage make-up
  • Airbrush make-up
  • Apply prosthetic pieces and bald caps
  • Face and body art
  • Fantasy hair design for performers

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade C in English.

Those progressing from Level 2 Hair and Media Make-Up Diploma or other related discipline will require a tutor references on performance, attitude and attendance over 90%.

Successful applicants must have a genuine passion and creative flair for make-up artistry. Applications are welcomed from candidates who have successfully completed a level 2 qualification in Art and Design or related discipline; including those who have AS/A level qualifications in an art or a design based subject. You should demonstrate a genuine interest in theatrical and media make-up and hair. Life experience will be considered for mature applicants.

Assessment

You will be assessed through observation of practical assessments, assignments and examinations. Experienced tutors will closely monitor and guide you through techniques to ensure you are meeting and exceeding industry standards. You will have personal one-to-one tutorials to review your progress regularly.

Future opportunities

You may go on to do a Foundation Degree in Media Make-up.

This qualification is most suited to learners who wish to progress into working industry as a Media, Hair and Make-up Artist.
