Course description

The course enables you to gain greater understanding of the nature of law and to appreciate the role of law in society. It covers a wide range of topics:Module 1: The various approaches to law making: EU, Parliament, Delegated and precedent.Module 2: The methods of implementing the law through the Civil and Criminal systems, including a study of entering the various elements of the legal profession.Module 3: This section covers the issues of liability within civil and criminal scenarios. Through debate, discussion and seminars you will develop a greater understanding of this fascinating and complex subject. Legal institutions play an important role in society and have an important relationship with other institutions. Sources of law, statutes and cases are used to apply to, and determine, the settlement of disputes. Students will develop a wider knowledge and understanding of such issues and will be expected to keep an up-to-date awareness of the impact of changing situations.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other Advanced level courses to prepare for higher education in areas of law, business studies, politics and more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to law such as a Lawyer, Solicitor or Barrister. The course will also help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many other employers across lots of industries are looking for.
