Economics at Rushcliffe School

Course description

AS Unit 1 (50%) - Markets and Market Failure. This paper looks at the basic economic problem of scarce resources, the allocation of resources in competitive markets, production and efficiency, market failure and government failure. It focuses around how the free market works and the factors which impact on the success or failure of a market.

AS Unit 2 (50%) - The National Economy. This paper looks at macroeconomic performance, how the macro-economy works, economic performance and macroeconomic policy. It focuses around government objectives and how they use policies to influence the performance of the economy.

Entry requirements

There is no requirement to have studied the subject at GCSE but we require students to have achieved at least a B in Maths and English. It will also help to have a real interest in economic issues facing government, business and people today.
