Course description

AS level / year 12

Component 1: exploration and performance (60% of AS)

•  Section A: exploration of a key extract from a text in the light of a chosen theatre practitioner

•  Group performance of a text to a live audience

•  Section B: exploration of a key extract from a text

•  Performance of a monologue or a duologue to a live audience

•  Coursework portfolio.

Internally assessed practical exam and coursework.

Component 2: theatre-makers in practice

(40% of AS)

•  Live theatre evaluation

•  Study of one complete text, focused on how it can be realised for performance.

Written examination of one hour forty five minutes.

A2 level / year 13

Component 1: devising (40% of A2)

•  Students devise an original piece of drama based on a key extract from a text (at least 10 minutes in length when performed) and a theatre practitioner as stimuli

•  Coursework portfolio.

Internally assessed practical exam and coursework.

Component 2: text in performance

(20% of A2)

•  Group performance of a text

•  Monologue/duologue of one key extract from a different text.

Externally assessed practical examination.

Component 3: theatre-makers in practice (40% of A2)

•  Live theatre evaluation

•  Study of a complete text, focused on how it can be realised for performance

Written examination of two hours thirty minutes

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades A* - C including English and/or maths.  We may consider students who don't have GCSE drama.  Please contact us to discuss our minimum requirements.
