AS/A2 Business Studies *Fees payable* at Lincoln Minster School

Course description

Business Studies is accessible to every student, as everyone will work for or run some form of business.

Business Studies is directly relevant to almost all careers and forms a component of many modern degrees – whether this be traditional subjects such as marketing, law, personnel, economics or accountancy; or with other combinations such as social sciences, politics, languages or media. Business Studies continues to be the largest growth area of academic and vocational study.

A thorough insight into the nature of business is highly beneficial.

The nature of the course

As the business economy changes around us, students studying this subject will explore how different businesses work in a modern context. The course draws upon the real world at local, national and global level. The course is taught through a blend of theory and application of real case studies. Students will be encouraged to read widely, develop a critical approach to current affairs and embrace relevant business programmes such as "The Apprentice" and "Dragon’s Den".

Students are encouraged to subscribe to "Business Review" publication, written specifically for AS and A2 students. Guest speakers, debate, presentations, research and the opportunity to witness business activity will be integrated throughout the course. Whilst NO previous study at GCSE level is necessary for this course, a grade ‘C’ or above is required for those who have. Those who have a GCSE in Business Studies will find the approach very similar, although far greater focus will be placed on higher order thinking skills such as analysis and evaluation at A level.
