Spanish at Sir Joseph Williamson's Mathematical School

Course description

The A level Spanish course emphasises the integration of the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking and the study of “contemporary society” with specific reference to Spain and Spanish speaking countries. During the two year course pupils will study the following topics-

 

Theme 1: La evolución de la sociedad Española

This theme covers social issues and trends.

Theme 2: La cultura política y artística en el mundo hispanohablante

Theme 2 is set in the context of Spanish-speaking countries and communities. This theme covers artistic culture (through music and festivals and traditions) and political and artistic culture (through media).

Theme 3: La inmigración y la sociedad multicultural española

This theme covers social issues and trends.

Theme 4: La dictadura franquista y la transición a la democracia

This theme covers political culture.

Entry requirements

Grade B or higher in GCSE Spanish

Further information

For those pupils who wish to study an AS in Spanish this course is taught alongside the A level Spanish and will be examined at the end of year 12.
