Barbering Technical Certificate Level 2 at PETROC

Course description

Interested in becoming a Barber? If you feel you have the natural creativity to shine in this area, the study programme provides the ultimate introduction to the industry. It's a great way to experience what a career in the industry could mean for you, allowing you to gain valuable experience and meet lots of people as you work towards a nationally recognised qualification.

Course content

The programme is divided in to modules of study that cover all aspects of Barbering, including Health & Safety, Client Care and Communication, Client Consultation, Shampoo and Conditioning the Hair & Scalp, Cutting Men's Hair, Colouring and Lightening Men's Hair, Cutting Facial Hair, Styling Men's Hair and Competition Work.

Entry requirements

All entrants must hold 4 GCSEs at grade D or equivalent or above, to preferably include GCSE Maths at grade 3 or above and GCSE English Language at grade 3 or above.
Entrants holding a grade 2 or a 3 in GCSE Maths will study towards GCSE Maths to gain grade 4 or above. Those with a grade 1 or below will study Level 1 Functional Skills Maths and retake GCSE Maths in the following year.

Entrants holding a grade 2 or a 3 in GCSE English Language will study towards GCSE English Language to gain grade 4 or above. Those with a grade 1 or below will study the Level 1 Functional Skills English and retake GCSE in the following year. 

At the end of the year all learners are expected to have completed and achieved all the components of their Level 2 Study Programme and achieved a graded improvement in their Maths and English Language studies before being allowed to progress.

Assessment

Throughout the qualification, a range of theory and practical assessments will support your learning and test your knowledge and skills development. You will be taught by industry professional staff within our brand new modern commercial salons.

On-going assessment is by multiple choice question tests that you complete online, as well as working on clients to gain competency and confidence within this speciality field.

Throughout the qualification we will also be working on the development of your Employability Skills as well as your Maths and English.

Future opportunities

Following successful completion of the course you will be invited to continue your studies with us. For a career within the industry you should progress on to Level 3 Barbering. However, should you wish to take an alternative route you can study further and specialise in Hairdressing. Alternatively, you can seek employment as a Level 3 Barbering Apprentice to complete a years time-served placement.

Our new Lifestyle Centre is home to our state-of-the-art nail bar, hair salon, beauty salon, tanning room, spa room (including sauna, steam room and hot tub), make-up room and training salons.

Q. Will I have to wear a uniform?
A. On your first day, you will come in your own clothes, you will then be expected to wear all black clothing until your uniform arrives.

Once you have your uniform, you will be expected to wear this at all times except in GCSE or Functional Skills
