Course description

This course is taught at Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College as part of our course partnership.

Course content

The syllabus for this course is designed to follow on from GCSE Science courses where Additional (not Applied) Science has been studied for the double award.


The A-level specification includes core Physics topics:

• Mechanics

• Materials

• Waves

• Particles

• Quantum Phenomena

• Electricity

• Fields

• Nuclear Physics

• Thermal Physics

• Astrophysics


Wherever possible the approach to these topics is practical.

Future opportunities

Career opportunities for students studying Physics together with other subjects (see below) are very good. The demands of industry for people with qualifications in these subjects are increasing while the number with such qualifications is decreasing. A degree in Physics opens the way to a wide variety of careers. Employers in unrelated fields also hold it in high regard because of its intellectual rigour.
