AS Music

UNIT 1: Influence on Music (EXAM)

30 minute listening exam

Set works exam - 1 hour (2 essay questions)


Students have to create a composition from a choice of three briefs:

a) Compositional Techniques

b) Free composition

c) Arranging

Briefs are released in November and pupils have a maximum of 20 supervised hours to complete their composition

It is expected that you will have achieved Grade B or above at GCSE Music

For AS Music, you must be Grade 4 Standard or above on your chosen instrument by the time you come to perform

For A2 Music, you must be Grade 6 standard or above on your chosen instrument

You must have instrumental lessons on your chosen instrument either privately or at school You are entitled to free instrumental lessons at school on one of your instruments.)

You must have a passion for music!


Exam Structure

All performing coursework is completed throughout the year and performances may be redone as many times as you wish!

Composing briefs are set in November and must be completed within 20 supervised hours (this must be done at school)

Listening exams take place early June
