A2 Level Mathematics at Nether Stowe School

Course description

Edexcel A level Maths is a 2 year course. Extra curriculum activities at A level include the Engineering in Education Scheme, Math's lectures at Birmingham University and Teams Maths Challenge competition.

Course content

The A level Maths course will include the study of:

Pure Topics: Calculus, Proof, Trigonometry, Algebra and Functions, Exponentials and Logarithms and coordinate Geometry.

Statistics: Data presentation, Probability, Hypothesis testing.

Mechanics: Vectors, Kinetics, Forces and Moments

Entry requirements

Grade 7 or above in GCSE Maths


Two 2 hour exams in Pure Maths

One 2 hour exam in Mechanics/Statistics

Future opportunities

Maths is a requirement for many degree courses including Maths, Physics,Engineering, Economics, Computer Science and Accountancy.

Maths is a highly regarded facilitating subject which will be an asset if you wish to apply to Oxbridge or other Russell Group universities. It is also a valued A level for Higher level apprenticeships in Engineering, Accounting, ICT or Business.
