Carpentry Diploma Level 1 at Tameside College
'The course is designed for learners who wish to gain a hands-on appreciation of Core Craft and associated fields of study surrounding Sustainable Building, Social Issues and Entrepreneurial Skills. You will acquire the introductory knowledge and skills relevant to the construction industry in the above disciplines whilst working in a supportive environment.The course offers students an opportunity to develop hands on practical skills in a real working environment. The course consists of units that include: an introduction to the industry; estimating; methods of working; building design; and construction. Functional skills are also included in communications, information technology and mathematics. In addition to the core elements a programme of tutorials and enrichment activities and topics are provided.
'Qualification requirements are a minimum of grades D in literacy and numeracy. Applicants should show a keen interest in the construction industry and in particular your own chosen craft area, along with listening skills and the ability to attend punctually. As appropriate, learning support is available to students.
'Successful completion of the course will lead to further vocational training and learning, progressing to either Level 2 Diploma (Intermediate) Level 3 Diploma (Advanced) [in-house College-based] or Levels 2-3 NVQ C&G/CITB work-based/Modern Apprenticeship and employment. Note: The relevant Skill for Life Qualifications must be gained to qualify for progression
