Access to Higher Education at Buxton & Leek College

Course description

  • We understand that you may have been out of  education for a long time, so we'll ease you in gently and provide you with all the support you need
  • When you've successfully completed this course, you'll have a nationally recognised qualification to apply to university
  • You will choose two or three other subjects to study depending on the degree you want to go on to study
  • Your classes will fit around school holidays, and classes start at 10am

Entry requirements

You’ll need to be over 19 years of age and have some life experience. Ideally you will have achieved Mathematics and English GCSEs at grade C or above, however students will be considered on an individual basis. Please contact the Access team for further details. You’ll also need to demonstrate a commitment and ability to study, and take a literacy/numeracy assessment.

Financial information

If you are aged between 19-23

You may be exempt from course fees.

If you are aged over 24

You may be eligible for 24+ Advanced Learning Loan to pay your fees

Future opportunities

This programme allows you to go on to an undergraduate, foundation degree or diploma course afterwards. It can also lead to a wide variety of career opportunities.

    • Situated right in the town centre of Buxton in the magnificent Dome, our Buxton Campus provides an inspirational setting for our vocational courses.  

      The campus boasts a fine dining restaurant, hair and beauty salons and a bistro café area at The Dome. All the commercial operations are open to students, staff and the general public, helping to provide real world experiences.

      Our Skillsbase Training Centre, based at Harpur Hill on the outskirts of Buxton is the perfect location for motor vehicle, construction, logistics, warehousing and painting and decorating.
