Food Technology A2 AQA 2540 at Sandown Bay Academy
Food Technology has been designed to encourage candidates to take a broad view of design technology. The course itself is made up of traditional cookery, experimental work and research. The course also seeks to develop the student’s capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. A2 Units: Unit 3:Design & Manufacture: 25% of A level. 2 Hour written paper, 84 marks. The paper is in two sections, candidates answer one question from three in each section plus one other from either section. Includes synoptic assessment. Unit 4: Designing & Making Practice. 25% of A level. Coursework, 25% of A level, approx. 60 hours, 85marks. A single substantial design & making activity.
Relevant AS qualification
POSSIBLE PROGRESSION: There are excellent prospects for careers from the obvious catering, dietetics, teaching Food Technology to working in the food industry developing new products, in media for the special requirements of food used in films and food photography. Some medical schools are accepting food as one of the subjects. SUGGESTED SUBJECT COMBINATION Biology is recommended, whilst photography would be useful.
