Nail services NVQ Level 3 Diploma at Buxton & Leek College
The nail industry is fun and enjoyable; the programme provides training and development required of students to work in the nail industry. The NVQ level 3 nail course is a nationally recognised qualification, which provides a detailed understanding of the nail industry. The course comprises of 8/9 units that are continually assessed via observed work, oral questions, witness statements and assignments. On completion of the programme you will need to show competence in a broad range of nail services, be able to demonstrate considerable responsibility for your work and have the ability to work independently and creatively.
During the programme you will be able to participate in the annual Hair and Beauty Show, work with a professional photographer. You will work alongside our experienced staff in salon, and you will also have the opportunity to enter professional nail competitions and attend trade shows to gain inspiration and keep up to date with current trends, latest treatments and designs. You will work in The Salon which is our commercial salon with-in the campus, working on clients offering you relevant work experience, also our level 3 students attend a one day a week placement in industry where further experience can be gained. Enrichment activities are also offered to further enhance your experience.
There will be internal transport provided between the Buxton and Leek campuses
Students will cover 8/9 units in one year. They will be involved in developing technical skills in the following areas:
- Monitor procedures to safely control work operations.
- Enhance and maintain nails using UV gel
- Enhance and maintain nails using liquid and powder (acrylic)
- Nail Wraps
- Nail art designs and images
- Airbrush designs
- Electric filing
- Promotional activities (additional unit)
This course may be offered part time if therapists want to train in a specific unit.
Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy or equivalent
Relevant GCSEs or Functional Skills Qualifications

The nail industry is a dynamic and creative industry a growing industry with new technologies and designs being developed continuously.
Once qualified your career prospects could range from Nail specialist or technician in a local salon, technical trainer for a leading manufacturer, self-employed or working for a chain of salons or work in doing nails for photographers, models, fashion designers and or film, television companies.
