AS - Course & Module Description

The AS is worth 50% of the full A-level.

AS Physics includes two taught units and a practical skills exam (ISA). The units are called ‘Particles, Quantum Phenomena and Electricity’ and ‘Mechanics, Materials and Waves.’

Each taught unit is examined in a single exam, each worth 40% of the AS level (20% of the full A-level).

The practical skills assessment takes the form of a single investigation followed by a written exam. This makes up the final 20% of the AS (10% of the full A-level).

A2 - Course & Module Description

The A2 is worth 50% of the full A-level.

A2 Physics includes two taught units and a practical skills exam (ISA). The first is called ‘Fields and Further Mechanics’. The second is a more open unit of study which includes a section on ‘Nuclear and Thermal Physics’ and also an optional unit from the following: ‘Astrophysics’, ‘Medical Physics’, ‘Applied Physics’ or ‘Turning Points in Physics’.

Each taught unit is examined in a single exam, each worth 40% of the A2 level (20% of the full A-level).

The practical skills assessment takes the form of a single investigation followed by a written exam. This makes up the final 20% of the A2 (10% of the full A-level).
