Physics A Level at King's Leadership Academy Liverpool

Course description

This is the branch of science concerned with the nature and properties of matter and energy. The subject matter of physics, distinguished from that of chemistry and biology, includes mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms. There are 6 units in this course including a practical skills unit.

Course content

  • Unit 1: Physics on the go (20%)
  • Unit 2: Physics at Work (20%)
  • Unit 3: Exploring Physics (10%)
  • Unit 4: Physics on the Move (20%)
  • Unit 5: Physics from Creation to Collapse (20%)
  • Unit 6: Experimental Physics (10%)

Entry requirements

  • 5 GCSE A*-C (or equivalent) including English, maths and additional/triple Science at grade B

Assessment

  • 80% Externally assessed exam
  • 20% Internally assessed coursework

Future opportunities

  • This A-Level coupled with other science or social science A-levels will lead onto any of the following: physics degrees at university, astronomy, and medical physics.
