Further Mathematics (AQA) at The Duke of York's Royal Military School

Course description

A Level Further Mathematics is designed to broaden and deepen the mathematical knowledge and skills developed when studying A Level Mathematics. It provides a stimulating experience for those who enjoy the subject.

Course content

A Level Further Mathematics is made up of six units. We generally take the units, Further Pure 1,2 and 3, Statistics 1, Mechanics 2 and Decision Mathematics 2. The Further Pure units build upon the techniques in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus developed from the Pure Core units as well as introducing topics such as complex numbers, matrices, proof, hyperbolic functions, polar coordinates and differential equations. Mathematical applications make up the remainder of the qualification and there are various options to suit the needs of individual students.

Entry requirements

Students who wish to take Further Mathematics should be expecting to gain an A* at GCSE Mathematics.

Future opportunities

Mathematics is highly regarded by all employers and universities, precisely because of the demands it makes and the skills it develops. Degrees in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Accounting and Actuarial Science will require a good grade in A Level Mathematics.

With the white cliffs of Dover on our doorstep and on a clear day France can be seen, we offer a state boarding facility with a military ethos.  The school has it's own colours, which were presented by our patron HRH The Duke of Kent.

With 500 students on roll we can offer a co-educational education to students from YR7 to YR13. We have a dedicated Sixth Form Centre, Centenary House which is the stepping stone from home/school to either University or into the workplace. The school has a set of values:courage, integrity, respect, commitment, loyalty and self-discipline.

These values are important in every day life as well as life in the classroom.

As a state boarding school KCC will cover the costs of education and parents are asked to pay for the cost of boarding.

We welcome applications from military and non-military families with our current on roll students split 50/50 from military and non-military families.
