French A Level at The Whitehaven Academy

Course description

You will develop knowledge and understanding through speaking, listening, reading and writing in French.

Specific areas of study include:

  • Travel and exploration
  • Contemporary youth culture
  • Diversity and difference
  • France 1940–1950 – the occupation and post-war years

Entry requirements

Grade B and above at GCSE

Assessment

AS – 1 oral exam with visiting examiner plus 2 written exams

A2 – 1 oral exam with visiting examiner plus 2 written exams

Future opportunities

French AS/A2 can lead to a variety of employment possibilities: solicitor, translator, tour manager, teacher of English as a foreign language, logistics and distribution manager, event organiser, diplomatic services operational officer, jobs in the fields of tourism, media & publishing, education.

This qualification opens the door to universities such as Durham, Southampton, Newcastle, Bath, St Andrew’s, Lancaster or Glasgow.
