Design and Technology: Product Design A-Level at WALSALL ACADEMY

Course description

Product Design is a vibrant and dynamic subject that encourages students to take a broad view of design and technology. It helps develop students' capacity to design and make products and to appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing. The subject requires initiative, creativity and determination, but most importantly problem solving and the desire to develop better solutions for consumers.

We expect all students to demonstrate a high level of motivation and have the capacity for hard work. Sixth Form work is demanding and students are expected to take increased responsibility for their own learning through supported self-study courses. Excellent attendance is vital if students are to benefit from the courses.

Course content

Students s will have the opportunity to visit various companies to experience the design and manufacture process including Jaguar Land Rover, Morgan Motors and EEF. Students also visit the Birmingham School of Jewellery for a metal workshop. We also invite designers to come in and run internal workshops for the students.
